Opera 5.0: Paid or Sponsored, It's Your Choiceby Dave MurphyISSN 1535-3613
Opera Software released version 5.0 of it's flagship product yesterday. With a Eudora-like twist, Opera 5.0 is available for $39 or it's free, if you're wiling to live with a small advertising sponsorship window. The non-Java-enabled version of Opera 5.0 for Windows is 2MB in size; the Java-enabled version is 9.5MB. The free version of Opera 5.0 for Windows is supported by a single ad banner. With the release of 5.0, Opera will turn the browser war into a 3-way race. I currently use Opera 4.02 as my primary browser, and it's great. In addition to its fast display speed, I use it's privacy features to disable 3d-party cookies from all sites and most primary cookies that are used for marketing and visitor tracking. I'm looking forward to downloading and installing Opera 5.0. The new integrated ICQ chat and web search features look to be winners.
