PalmOS 4.1 Upgrade Special

by Dave Murphy
ISSN 1535-3613

Dave Murphy, DGL President & ITrain founder The best news from Comdex Fall 2001 computer show in Las Vegas is that handheld computer maker Palm is now selling a new version of it's operating system (PalmOS 4.1) that adds improved security and other features. Comdex attendees can save a cool sawbuck off the $40 price tag for the software upgrade.

Details on the upgrade are so fresh that the palm.com site doesn't even have details. Here's what I've been able to find out...

Only PDAs with flash memory will be able to accept the upgrade. Compatible devices include the Palm Vx LE, Palm Vx, Palm V and Palm IIIc. The m100, IIIe and VII wireless series are among those that cannot be upgraded.

For people running OS version 4.0, the new OS will mostly fix a number of minor bugs. The software will be most useful to those running a 3.x or older operating system. The upgrade will add security features, improve management of alarms, enhance color resolution and improve data entry. According to reports, Palm will include its mobile connectivity software with the upgrade, which adds support for wireless Internet and e-mail access as well as mobile phone messaging.

I'll give you more as I learn about it. I've got me ear to the ground, but hoping I won't get stepped on.
