Red Hat UpgradesNew version coming next week
Red Hat Linux Version 7.3 Announcedby Dave MurphyISSN 1535-3613
The Red Hat distribution of Linux is popular with both technical consumers and IT departments because it includes many of the most-requested features, including the Apache Web server, MySQL and PostgreSQL database support, and a simple, well-documented installation routine. Red Hat targets large businesses who seek a more stable operating platform for critical data systems such as file and print servers. Linux fits this niche well without requiring staff to attend extensive and costly offsite training. The new software will be available for retail purchase on May 15th, it may be available from Red Hat's FTP site before that date.
Dave's OpinionI run three Red Hat Linux servers in our office to manage our network file and printer services. Our corporate intranet and SQL databases are also kept on the Red Hat servers, and we've never had a moment's trouble in over five years of near-continuous use. This looks like a must-have upgrade.
