Symantec uses a built-in feature in Regedit to compact the registry. This feature is completely bugged and behaves erratically. I've been working on it for hours and decided to ask Microsoft for answers. They don't even know how the feature works and couldn't help me with this. The only thing Symantec is to be blamed for is their decision to use a feature that is not even understood by its programmer, Microsoft.
