I just read my E-mail from DGL about Tim Berners-Lee and
his frustration with people demanding permissiont to
link to their site. Linking, if anything, creates a
more effective means to have your specific web site
accessed by numerous visitors.
Another concern of mine is some Webmasters who saw they
have "exclusive rights" to a given image from a movie.
I ran into such a situation and in fact, because it was
posted to ask permission, I did so and the Webmaster
told me I was ALLOWED to use 16 of 'his' images. I
wrote back and asked what gave him 'exclusive' rights
to these images that could be captured by anyone and he
said that it was just proper web ettiquette. Whenever
I use images from a site, I ALWAYS make a point to
mention the site and to link directly to it from the
page the images are on, as well as my link page.
The World Wide Web is a great avenue for learning,
researching, entertainment etc. and should in no way be
dominated by any Webmaster. If the Webmaster sets his
website up so that a person has to pay to access it, then
he has indicated his territory. But if it is a free site,
it should be free in all manners of speaking.
Respectively submitted
