FAQ: "My E-mail Application Always Gives Me An Error On The First Try"

Many RideWay customers like to take advantage of the flexibility of On-Demand Dialing so
that phone lines are not tied up. It is strongly recommended that a client user on a
RideWay LAN not use his or her e-mail or other Internet application to send
a request to RideWay to initiate  a connection to the Internet. While it will work, it won't
be without limitation and or frustration.

A common example is when RideWay is in On-Demand Dialing mode and a client user clicks
on their e-mail application to check mail. The e-mail application sends a SMTP request to
RideWay. If the RideWay server is not connected, then RideWay tells the dialer in Windows
to make a connection to the ISP. The ISP is dialed and a connection must be negotiated. If this
is taking to long, the e-mail application on the client machine will most likely give an error message.

RideWay does not enhance nor slow the speed of this transfer. Rather, this is a limitation
of dial-on-demand and/or LAN network throughput.

SUGGESTION  Client PC users on a RideWay LAN when On-Demand Dialing is in use should
always click on their browser to initiate a connection before using other Internet applications. Leading
browsers such as Netscape and Internet Explorer can wait for longer periods of time before "timing
                out."
