Configuring RideWay For Use With AOL

Return To RideWay Help Page

If a user has an AOL account on a client PC on the network, then he or she can access AOL through RideWay even though RideWay is connected through another Internet Service Provider.

Steps:

1. Download and install a free copy of SOCKSCap32.

The AOL 3.0 software is NOT socks-compliant. You will need to install SOCKSCap32 on the client PC(s) so AOL 3.0 can communicate with RideWay. Essentially, you will be starting AOL 3.0 from within SOCKSCap to communicate with RideWay.

2. Configure AOL to access account using TCP/IP connection. AOL 3.0 software has a new feature that allows a user to access his or account using any Internet connection. This is made possible by TCP/IP.

  1. Start AOL 3.0
  2. Click Setup
  3. Click Edit Location
  4. Under Network, click TCP/IP
  5. Click Save

3. Limitations and Restrictions.
AOL is a proprietary online network service that only permits one user at a time. This means that each user on the network can use RideWay as a single connection to access AOL but each user will have to have his or her own account.
